Creating animated thumbnail gifs from movies

Hi,

Does anyone have a process for this this using ImageMagick and FFmpeg?

The idea being to use FFmpeg to convert the movie into something ImageMagick can work with and then to generate an animated GIF from this using ImageMagick.

example of how to do that.

Generally speaking, IM is rather weak when it comes to processing video.
What operating system and what kind of video you are dealing with?

Video of any kind really – it's intended to be a generic solution.
Formats would include .flv .mp4 .mpg .mov .avi maybe even the MS format, who's evil name I've deleted from my memory.

Operating system is CentOS in a managed environment.
