always get this "too many open files",
That suggests a file leak, however, we were unable to reproduce the
problem. We identified over 25,000 PNG images with 'identify -verbose
*.png' and it completed without complaint. Perhaps the problem is
specific to a particular image format. Which types of images where you
trying to identify?

jpeg only, the process is, convert then identify, too many files open can
happen either in convert or identify, got around 250k jpegs, it always stops
between 2900 and 3100.
